Jenny Hval has unveiled her upcoming album, Iris Silver Mist, named after a fragrance created by Maurice Roucel. The album is set to be released on May 2 and features the lead single, “To Be a Rose,” which is now available for streaming. The music video showcases a collage of tour footage from 2015 to 2024, all captured and edited by the artist herself.
In a recent statement, Hval described “To Be a Rose” as an exploration of restlessness within pop music. The track features a chorus that evolves with each repetition, signifying a journey through various experiences and emotions. The song intertwines personal imagery, reflecting on connections between bodies and time, and showcases Hval’s unique lyrical approach to transformation and identity.
Iris Silver Mist follows her 2022 release, Classic Objects, and comprises 13 tracks. Many of these songs were honed during live performances last year, highlighting Hval’s focus on the tactile and energetic aspects of music-making.
Hval is also gearing up for a series of live performances this spring. After kicking off with a concert in Madrid, Spain, on April 5, she will tour several major cities including London, Brussels, Berlin, and Amsterdam, with her final scheduled show on June 5 in Oslo, Norway.
