Sometime this week, a one-meter-wide capsule is set to descend from the sky and land in the South Australian desert, bringing with it a shipment of pharmaceuticals.
Launched on a SpaceX rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on January 14, the capsule has been producing a proprietary pharmaceutical compound through a reactor on board.
Varda, the US-based company responsible for the capsule’s development, aims to demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing drugs in low Earth orbit. This groundbreaking endeavor highlights the potential for space-based production to revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry and enhance drug availability on Earth.
