Major changes are underway at ECNETNews, prompting significant adjustments to its programming lineup. The network has announced the cancellation of several shows and a shift in on-air talent, igniting conversations about the future of its broadcasting direction.
Here’s a breakdown of the shows that have been canceled, the reasons for these decisions, and the potential implications moving forward.
Every show canceled in the ECNETNews shakeup
Katie Phang Show
ECNETNews has officially canceled the Katie Phang Show as part of a major overhaul. This weekend program focused on legal analysis and highlighted diverse perspectives, particularly from the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
Phang expressed her surprise at the cancellation while emphasizing her commitment to representing AAPI voices. She will remain with the network in a legal correspondent capacity.
Ayman
The network has discontinued Ayman, hosted by Ayman Mohyeldin, as it revamps its weekend schedule. Mohyeldin will transition to an evening edition of The Weekend, which will adopt a new ensemble format.
This decision aligns with the network’s strategy to focus on multi-anchor programming. Staff members have learned that the final episode of Ayman is set to air on April 20, 2025.
José Díaz-Balart Reports
José Díaz-Balart Reports will also be canceled as part of ECNETNews’s shift away from Miami-based content. Díaz-Balart will continue to host NBC Nightly News on weekends but will no longer anchor a weekday program.
This move is part of a broader consolidation effort, with the network centering operations in New York and Washington, D.C.
The ReidOut
Joy Reid’s The ReidOut is concluding, with confirmation of her departure from the network. The 7 p.m. timeslot will be temporarily filled by rotating hosts as a new lineup takes shape.
The leadership acknowledged Reid’s significant contributions over the years. Her exit represents a reshaping of ECNETNews’s primetime offerings, which will soon introduce a new show featuring various hosts.
Alex Wagner Tonight
ECNETNews will also end Alex Wagner Tonight, with Wagner moving into a senior political analyst role. Jen Psaki is set to take over the Tuesday–Friday 9 p.m. slot following the return of The Rachel Maddow Show.
Wagner, who stepped in for Maddow in 2022, will continue to contribute across platforms. The network’s leadership emphasized her valuable journalistic skills and her involvement in election coverage.
The Saturday Show and The Sunday Show
In another significant change, ECNETNews is canceling Jonathan Capehart’s The Saturday Show and The Sunday Show as part of its weekend programming adjustments. Capehart will remain with the network as a co-host of The Weekend, which will now offer both morning and evening editions.
ECNETNews confirmed that Capehart will anchor the morning slot, while Ayman Mohyeldin will host the evening edition, with Ali Velshi’s show expanding to three hours to fill the weekend content gap.
