The government is committed to eradicating scam gangs operating from neighboring countries that are targeting Thai citizens, Prime Minister stated during a press briefing on Tuesday.
“Our efforts will continue until this problem is resolved. It must be taken seriously,” the Prime Minister said after the weekly cabinet meeting.
In a proactive stance, she plans to visit the border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province on Friday to assess the situation firsthand.
During the cabinet meeting, officials provided updates on recent government initiatives aimed at combating call-center scam networks preying on the population.
Authorities have closed border areas in 14 provinces and are receiving substantial cooperation from neighboring nations, leading to numerous arrests.
The Defence Ministry is coordinating with countries whose citizens have been apprehended in the crackdown against the gangs based in Myawaddy to facilitate their swift return.
A joint panel has been established involving Thailand, China, and Myanmar to address cross-border crime effectively.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, in collaboration with key regulatory bodies, is taking measures such as the removal of signal towers near border areas to reduce scam activities.
Transmissions from authorized SIM boxes are being scrutinized to eliminate connections associated with scam operations, and irregular high usage patterns are under investigation.
The Prime Minister reiterated that neighboring governments view the scam issue seriously during her discourse.
On Friday, she will visit tambon Klong Luek, adjacent to Rong Kluea market in Aranyaprathet district, to observe the situation and enhance efforts to combat scams.
“We are unwavering in our efforts to tackle this issue. We have received strong support from various countries and are committed to effectively solving this problem,” concluded the Prime Minister.
“Thailand is taking significant actions that will also benefit neighboring nations,” she added.
