The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has identified excessive speeding and driver fatigue as the primary factors contributing to a tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Ayetoro on Monday. This devastating incident resulted in the loss of nine lives and left three others injured.
The collision, which occurred around 5:30 AM, involved a Toyota bus with the license plate UYY165ZY and a stationary truck bearing registration number DKA244XC. Reports indicate that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with the parked truck.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, the incident involved 13 individuals, including 10 males and three females. Of those involved, nine were killed—six males and three females—while three others sustained injuries.
The FRSC has expressed grave concern regarding the reckless behavior of certain drivers, particularly their disregard for speed limits and the critical need for a 15-minute rest following four hours of driving. The injured victims have been transported to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, and the deceased have been placed in the Idera morgue in Sagamu.
In light of this incident, the sector commander extended condolences to the families of the victims and encouraged them to reach out to the Mowe Unit Command for further information regarding the crash.
