At least 12 passengers tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident along the Lapai-Agaie Road in Niger State on Saturday.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the collision took place in Nami village when a Wemer passenger bus, transporting 15 individuals, collided head-on with a trailer. The victims comprised eight men and four women, with three members hailing from the same family.
The bus driver, Mohammed Baba, survived the crash but sustained injuries and was promptly taken to Lapai General Hospital for medical attention. Reflecting on the incident, Baba stated that the trailer driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, which led to the fatal collision.
Kumar Tsukwam, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident, noting that officials are currently working to gather additional details from the accident scene. He emphasized the importance of adherence to traffic regulations and urged drivers to exercise caution to avert similar tragedies. Tsukwam also assured the public that a comprehensive report would be released following the completion of the investigation.
