Earlier this week, an update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hinted at the return of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. A new skate park map titled The Grind features a banner displaying the THPS logo alongside the date “03.04.25.” This has led to speculation, as the official Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater site has now launched a countdown clock to March 4, 2025, indicating that an announcement may be on the horizon.
The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game debuted in September 1999, and although the 25th anniversary has passed, Tony Hawk revealed last year that he had discussions with Activision to commemorate this significant milestone. He later confirmed that the beloved franchise will continue to evolve.
As anticipation builds for upcoming news regarding THPS, two possibilities are at the forefront. One option is another remake, similar to 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, which revived enthusiasm for the series. Speculation suggests that a collection featuring Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 could be on the way. However, the more exciting prospect is the development of a brand-new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater title, the first original game since 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Additionally, reports indicate that the next installment could be released as early as this summer, making the timing of the announcement seem quite plausible.
Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently shared that Tony Hawk was living in his car when he struck the deal for the inaugural Pro Skater game. Since then, Hawk has enjoyed a successful career, and fans are eager to see how the series will leverage the capabilities of current-generation consoles.
