A woman was sexually assaulted by four men in the Koramangala area of Bengaluru, according to reports. The assailants allegedly lured the victim by pretending to be old acquaintances.
The incident occurred on a hotel terrace during the late hours of Thursday night into Friday morning. Following the assault, the suspects robbed the victim and forced her to leave the premises.
After the incident, the victim contacted emergency services and alerted the authorities.
Subsequent police action led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Ajit, Vishwas, and Shivu, hailing from West Bengal and Uttarakhand. One suspect remains at large. Reports indicate that the accused are employed at a hotel in HSR Layout.
Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt, and a case of gang rape has been registered.
Sarah Fatima, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), confirmed that information regarding the case was received early Friday morning. “All necessary procedures have been completed, including medical examinations for the victim,” she stated.
The officer added, “The incident occurred early this morning, and further details will emerge during the investigation. Initial findings suggest that the victim had gone to meet a friend.”
The victim, a married woman from Delhi, is reported to be in stable condition.
Earlier this year, Bengaluru faced another tragic event when a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and murdered at an under-construction site in Hoysala Nagar.
Recent disclosures by Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara highlighted the alarming trend of sexual violence, with Bengaluru recording 444 rape cases between 2021 and 2023, indicating an increasing annual rate.
