The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially refuted circulating social media claims regarding an upgrade of corps members’ bank accounts to accommodate a new minimum wage of N70,000.
In a statement released by the NYSC, it clarified that no official directive has been issued by the appropriate government authorities to implement the N70,000 minimum wage for corps members or to modify their banking arrangements.
Eddy Megwa, NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized that the reports are misleading and categorically false. He urged corps members to be cautious of opportunists spreading misinformation.
The statement noted, “The management has been alerted to false information circulating about the payment of N70,000 minimum wage. This is completely untrue.”
It continued by advising corps members, their families, and the public to understand that no directive related to wages has been received from government sectors, making it impossible for the NYSC to provide any updates on such matters.
NYSC has encouraged members to rely on verified communication channels within the scheme and ignore erroneous directives. Furthermore, it cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against disseminating unverified claims related to its operations without proper authorization.
