Controversial artist Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, has publicly acknowledged his mental health struggles while undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta. This revelation comes amid a tense situation where he has been declared wanted by the Ogun State police.
On Tuesday, Portable made an emotional appeal to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government following reports of his involvement in a violent altercation with officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The incident occurred when the officials were conducting an enforcement operation in Ota, and Portable reportedly confronted them after they interacted with his father.
According to the officials, they were assaulted by Portable and a group of nine armed individuals shortly after they requested to see an approved building plan. The police reported that the enforcement officers sustained injuries but managed to escape and subsequently reported the assault to the Ota Area Command. The case has now escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
While nine accomplices were arrested, Portable managed to evade capture and has been in hiding. In response to the situation, he took to social media to express his grievances, alleging that he was targeted due to wearing a vest featuring the image of Senator Adeola Solomon, commonly known as Yayi.
Portable emphasized his mental health condition during his rants, stating that he possesses documentation from the Aro Hospital confirming his status as a patient. He sought understanding from the public, declaring, “I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital.”
The impactful story continues to unfold as the public and authorities await further developments in this high-profile case involving the ‘Zazoo’ crooner.
