In a significant loss for the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), former Minister for Local Administration K. Kutty Ahammed Kutty, aged 71, has passed away at his residence in Tanur on August 11, 2024. For the past several years, he had been living a retired life.
Kutty Ahammed Kutty was a respected and well-educated leader within the IUML, serving in the Local Administration portfolio during the 2004 Oommen Chandy-led Cabinet. His political career faced a turning point after he was involved in a car accident in February 2005, after which he stepped back from active politics.
Throughout his career, Kutty was elected to the Kerala Assembly three times—once from Tanur and twice from Tirurangadi—demonstrating significant support from his constituents.
He held various notable positions, including State vice-president of IUML and president of the Tanur constituency. His contributions extended to being the Malappuram district president of the Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Union, president of the Tanur panchayat, chairman of the Public Works Standing Committee of Malappuram District Council, and vice-president of the Malappuram District Council.
Kutty also served as the secretary for IUML Malappuram district and was chairman of SSM Polytechnic College in Tirur. He is survived by his wife Jaharana, two sons, and a daughter.
