YouTube has unveiled the integration of its latest AI video generation model, enhancing its Shorts platform with innovative creative tools. The update expands the capabilities of Dream Screen, YouTube’s AI-driven background generator, and introduces standalone AI-generated video clips for Shorts.
With the new video generation model, users can now create video clips from simple text prompts, allowing for seamless content enhancement or the creation of entirely new scenes. This functionality empowers creators to integrate AI-generated elements directly into Shorts without the need for original footage.
“Need a specific scene but don’t have the right footage? Want to transform your ideas into captivating stories?” a YouTube representative stated. “Simply use a text prompt to generate a video clip that seamlessly fits into your narrative, or create an entirely new world of content.”
The integration of the latest model significantly improves Dream Screen, producing AI-generated videos that are more detailed, realistic, and quicker to generate. The upgrade enhances real-world physics and human movement while offering users the ability to apply unique styles, lens effects, and cinematic filters to their AI-generated creations.
How to Use the New Video Generation Features in YouTube Shorts
Creators can access the innovative features in two straightforward ways:
-
To generate AI video backgrounds: Open the Shorts camera, select Green Screen, choose Dream Screen, and enter a text prompt to create a custom background.
- To create AI-generated video clips: Open the Shorts camera, tap Add to open the media picker, select Create at the top, enter a text prompt, select an image, tap Create video, and choose the desired length.
YouTube has also implemented watermarks and clear labels to distinguish AI-generated content, which are currently available in select countries, with plans for broader availability.
