Sreekaryam police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a notorious criminal in Powdikonam late Friday evening.
Authorities have identified the individuals involved in the attack on Joy, known as ‘Vettukathi’ Joy, from Kuttiyani, near Vattappara.
Joy, recently released on bail after serving a sentence under the Kerala Antisocial Activities Prevention Act, was ambushed by a group of three assailants while traveling in his autorickshaw at Society Junction around 9 p.m. on his way to his residence in Vishnu Nagar.
The suspects, traveling in a car, attacked Joy with machetes before fleeing the scene. He was found bleeding heavily about three hours later. Despite immediate medical attention at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, Joy succumbed to his injuries around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Police have identified three suspects: Sajeer, Anshad, and Anwar Hussain, all from Kuttiyani, and are actively pursuing them. Additionally, another individual, Subin from Venjaramoodu, was apprehended for allegedly renting the car used by the assailants.
The attack is suspected to be motivated by revenge linked to a previous incident involving the victim that occurred six months ago in Plamoodu, near Pothencode.
