The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command has confirmed a tragic road accident resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals at the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in the Hotoro area of Kano on Friday.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer for the command reported that the FRSC Kano rescue team, in collaboration with local law enforcement, swiftly responded to the distress call to facilitate a rescue operation and restore traffic flow.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident involved a DAF trailer transporting goods and carrying 71 passengers. The crash has been attributed to dangerous driving practices, particularly excessive speeding, leading to a loss of vehicle control.
The report detailed that of the 71 individuals involved, 52 sustained injuries, while 16 fatalities were recorded. The injured victims have been evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical care.
In response to this devastating event, the Sector Commander of the FRSC Kano has initiated an investigation team to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the crash. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, urging all motorists to avoid the dangerous practice of overloading vehicles with goods, animals, and passengers, as these actions significantly heighten the risk of fatal accidents.
