No fewer than 14 commuters narrowly escaped death during a serious accident involving a commercial bus and a private vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the incident took place in the Iyana-Oworonshoki area when the commercial bus collided with the private car. The authority attributed the crash to excessive speeding by the bus driver, which resulted in a loss of control and subsequent collision.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority emphasized its ongoing commitment to public safety as it swiftly rescued 14 individuals, including the bus driver, following the accident.
The crash involved a Mazda commercial bus, which was reported to be speeding uncontrollably and crashing into a moving Toyota Yaris. The severity of the collision prompted an immediate emergency response.
Rescue personnel, in collaboration with ambulance services, acted with urgency to extricate the victims from the wreckage, providing timely assistance to those injured. The rescued individuals were promptly transported to Gbagada General Hospital for medical care.
In the wake of the incident, the General Manager of the traffic management authority extended his sympathies to the injured and stressed the critical importance of adhering to speed limits for all drivers. He highlighted that compliance with these regulations is essential to prevent tragic road accidents in the future and wished the injured a swift recovery.
