Nashville guitarist William Tyler has unveiled his highly anticipated new album, Time Indefinite, set to release on April 25. Fans are treated to an early preview with the debut of the three-song suite, featuring “Cabin Six,” “Concern,” and “Star of Hope.” Each track is accompanied by a captivating short film, utilizing Tyler’s family home video footage.
“Cabin Six” incorporates sounds from an old tape machine discovered by Tyler in 2020 while clearing out his late grandfather’s office in Jackson, Mississippi. Tyler transported the machine to Nashville, where he and producer Jake Davis crafted tape loops that form the foundation of this opening track.
The track “Star of Hope” was inspired by an a cappella hymn heard on AM radio. Tyler reflected on the random yet profound origins of ‘sacred melodies,’ noting that even the melody for “The Star-Spangled Banner” stems from an old English drinking song.
Time Indefinite marks Tyler’s first solo album since 2019’s Goes West, although he has remained active with collaborative projects during this time, including notable albums with the Impossible Truth and Marisa Anderson. Additionally, he contributed to the score for the acclaimed 2019 film First Cow.
