HONOLULU — A soldier based in Hawaii has been charged in military court regarding the suspected murder of his pregnant wife, as announced by the Army on Wednesday. The remains of his wife have yet to be located.
The charges against Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II are linked to the mysterious disappearance of Mischa Johnson last year, according to U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii. The 19-year-old woman was last seen on July 31 at their residence on Schofield Barracks, an Army base located on Oahu, while six months pregnant. The Army has declared her presumed dead.
According to the Army, the charges include the killing of his wife, intentionally causing harm to her unborn child, and obstruction of justice. Additional allegations involve providing false official statements, as well as possession and the production and distribution of child sexual abuse images.
Johnson was taken into custody in August. It remains unclear if he has retained a civilian attorney, with attempts to reach him yielding no response.
Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Johnson serves as a cavalry scout. He enlisted in the Army and completed training at Fort Moore, Georgia, in November 2022, later being assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in 2023.
The case will be overseen by a military judge, who will set dates for an arraignment, pretrial hearings, and a trial. Charging documents will be released following Johnson’s arraignment, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel.
