A tragic incident has unfolded in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, where a young man who gained notoriety for his heroic act of saving Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant from a car crash is now fighting for his life after a heartbreaking turn of events. Rajat, 25, alongside his girlfriend Mannu, 21, reportedly consumed poison following their families’ rejection of their relationship due to caste differences.
Mannu tragically succumbed to her condition during treatment on Wednesday, while Rajat is currently hospitalized in Roorkee. The couple, both residents of Buchcha village near Uttarakhand, took the drastic action on February 9 after learning that Mannu’s parents had arranged her marriage to another individual.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case, even though no formal grievances have been lodged by either family. Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarnagar, Satyanarayan Prajapat, stated that further legal proceedings will depend on the evidence uncovered during the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident, Rajat had previously played a crucial role in rescuing Rishabh Pant in December 2022, after spotting Pant’s burning Mercedes while returning home. This heroic act involved rushing the cricketer to a hospital following a severe accident caused by Pant losing control of his vehicle after falling asleep while driving from Delhi to Uttarakhand.
