The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government for the implementation of the new national minimum wage alongside other benefits, warning of an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
This announcement was made through a communiqué following an emergency meeting at the JUSUN Secretariat in Abuja. The ultimatum takes effect from Thursday, February 13, 2025, and concludes on February 19, 2025.
JUSUN emphasized that failure to fulfill their demands by this deadline will trigger an indefinite strike starting February 20, 2025. The union is specifically calling for the complete implementation of the new national minimum wage set at N77,000 for judicial workers, amidst ongoing frustrations over the government’s lack of action while other public sector workers have begun receiving the revised wage.
Previously, JUSUN issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, but no progress was made during that period. The recent communiqué stated, “The meeting principally centered on the expiration of the twenty-one (21) day ultimatum issued to all Heads of Federal Courts, FCT Courts, and Judicial Bodies. After exhaustive deliberations, the following resolution was reached: an additional seven (7) days’ notice for the full implementation of our demands is hereby given, urging the intervention of the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria.”
JUSUN has called on the Federal Government to act promptly to avoid disruption of judicial operations across the nation.
