Bangkok and 53 out of 76 provinces are currently experiencing hazardous levels of ultrafine dust pollution. The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda) reported on Thursday morning that thick smog has enveloped the Central Plain and Eastern regions.
As of 8 AM, the report indicated that Bangkok and 27 surrounding provinces recorded dangerously high PM2.5 levels—ranging from 75.7 to 112.4 micrograms per cubic meter of air—far exceeding the government-set safe limit of 37.5 µg/m³.
The highest level of PM2.5 was recorded in Trat province at 112.4 µg/m³, followed closely by Bangkok at 103.7 µg/m³, Pathum Thani at 102.5 µg/m³, and Samut Prakan at 101.8 µg/m³.
In addition, 22 other provinces also fell into the hazardous category, including Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Samut Sakhon, among others.
Meanwhile, 26 provinces reported orange levels of PM2.5, indicating a starting health risk, with figures between 39.7 to 74.6 µg/m³. These provinces included Khon Kaen, Phuket, and Tak.
At the other end of the spectrum, 23 provinces experienced either very good, good, or moderate air quality. Amnat Charoen stood out with very good air quality, while eight provinces, such as Chiang Mai and Chumphon, recorded good air conditions.
Fourteen provinces demonstrated moderate air quality, including Chiang Rai and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
