Fountains of Wayne to Make Triumphant Return with Summerfest Performance
Fountains of Wayne have officially announced their much-anticipated return to the stage, marking their first show since the passing of bassist Adam Schlesinger in April 2020. The beloved power-pop band is set to perform at Milwaukee’s Summerfest on July 4, sharing the spotlight with notable acts including Benson Boone, the Lumineers, Chicago, and Porter Robinson. Max Collins of Eve 6 will step in to honor Schlesinger’s legacy on bass.
In addition to the Summerfest performance, Fountains of Wayne will take the stage at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Maryland, on Friday, September 26.
Adam Schlesinger tragically passed away due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of 52. Known for his remarkable contributions to pop culture, Schlesinger was a critically acclaimed and beloved songwriter, celebrated for his work with Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, and numerous film and television projects. His accolades included three Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and nominations for Academy Awards, Tony Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. Following his death, the music community came together to pay tribute with a special covers album and other memorial events.
This Summerfest show will be Fountains of Wayne’s first live performance in 12 years. Their last studio album, “Sky Full of Holes,” released in 2011, was followed by a hiatus beginning in 2013. The band also commemorated their legacy by reissuing the 2003 album “Welcome Interstate Managers” on vinyl in 2021.
While the band did reunite for a livestream event during the Jersey 4 Jersey benefit show in 2020, this upcoming performance at Summerfest will be their first opportunity to connect with fans in person since their hiatus, further marking this event as a significant moment in their storied career.
