After two decades of side projects and intermittent reunions, the iconic Welsh rock band Mclusky is set to release a highly anticipated new album—their first in 20 years. Titled The World Is Still Here and So Are We, the album is scheduled to drop on May 9. Fans can also listen to the lead single, “Way of the Exploding Dickhead,” which is accompanied by a satirical music video directed by Remy Lamont.
Andrew Falkous comments on the single, stating, “With a title inspired by a classic video game and lyrics reflecting the excitement around inflated ticket prices for distant performances, ‘Way of the Exploding Dickhead’ serves as a modern parable.”
Falkous leads the current lineup, which includes drummer Jack Egglestone and bassist Damien Sayell, who has participated in various incarnations of the band over the years. The single “Way of the Exploding Dickhead” is coupled with another track, “Unpopular Parts of a Pig,” as part of a double A-side release. All three songs are featured on the new album; the complete tracklist is available below.
The band’s last album in their earlier phase was 2004’s The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire. Following that, they released the compilation album Mcluskyism before disbanding. Falkous then redirected his focus to side projects, most notably Future of the Left, which has significantly influenced the recent British rock scene. Over the years, Falkous and various band members sporadically performed under modified names like Mclusky* and ‘Mclusky.’ Now, with the impending album release, they have fully committed to embracing the Mclusky name again.
