Elon Musk’s involvement in U.S. government affairs faces another significant legal challenge.
The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has initiated a lawsuit against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), alleging that the agency and Musk have “illegally forced” the Office of Personnel Management and Treasury Department to release extensive digital information about U.S. citizens to “unauthorized, untrained personnel.” The lawsuit characterizes Musk’s actions as “the largest data breach in American history.”
DOGE staffer resigns after controversial posts arise, with Musk possibly reinstating him.
This legal action comes in the wake of numerous reports suggesting a troubling takeover of government functions by Musk and his team, which includes individuals as young as 19 years. They have allegedly gained access to sensitive data concerning government employees, including home addresses, Social Security numbers, and birth dates. This raises significant concerns about the potential misuse of such information by a politically motivated group.
This lawsuit is not an isolated incident; unions have also filed legal actions against Musk and DOGE this week, indicating that further challenges to Musk’s governance may arise.
