A notorious criminal from Barmer, Rajasthan, died in a road accident on the Kanpur Express Highway in Uttar Pradesh shortly after law enforcement froze his assets valued at Rs 2 crore. On Tuesday at around 7 am, the individual, identified as Virdharam, was en route to Gaya, Bihar, for a religious ceremony with two companions when their vehicle collided with a truck near Balhaur.
All three occupants suffered severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in Kanpur, where Virdharam was pronounced dead.
This tragic incident occurred just 19 hours after authorities in Barmer initiated action to freeze Virdharam’s luxury residence, a high-end vehicle, and three sleeper coach buses.
Virdharam had a lengthy criminal record at the Sadar police station in Barmer, with approximately 10 registered cases against him, which included serious offenses related to drug possession, assault, and firearms. Allegations suggested that he accumulated significant wealth through illegal activities, primarily drug trafficking.
The local police station in-charge confirmed that steps were underway to blacklist the frozen vehicles through the Regional Transport Office (RTO), preventing their sale or transfer. Authorities indicated that Virdharam had recently been released on bail and had evaded law enforcement during the asset freeze operation.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Virdharam’s illegal property acquisition amounted to around Rs 2 crore, leading to further scrutiny under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
