Disney has announced the upcoming release of Mufasa: The Lion King, a hybrid prequel/sequel that explores the early years of Mufasa during Simba’s reign. This eagerly awaited film will be available for preorder in both 4K Blu-ray for $66 and standard Blu-ray for $41, ahead of its official release on April 1.
Mufasa: The Lion King continues a trend seen in recent Disney titles, with the Limited Edition Steelbook being the only 4K version available in the U.S. The film follows the release strategy also used for Inside Out 2 and the forthcoming Moana 2, with the latter set to launch its 4K Limited Edition Steelbook on March 18 at the same price point of $66.
Preorder options include price guarantees, ensuring customers receive the lowest available price if the cost drops before the product ships. The Limited Edition Steelbook features striking artwork of Mufasa and Simba on the covers, along with interior graphics that include Rafiki’s tree and the main cast.
In addition to the 4K Blu-ray disc, the Steelbook package will also provide a standard 1080p Blu-ray and a digital download voucher. Fans will enjoy a range of bonus features, such as a sing-along version and several engaging featurettes.
Special Features of Mufasa: The Lion King:
- Finding Milele: The Making of Mufasa: The Lion King
- Sing-Along Version
- Songs of the Savanna
- Ostrich Eggs with Timon & Pumbaa
- I Always Wanted A Brother
- Protect the Pride
- Song Selection

- Outtakes
For those preferring a standard edition, the 1080p Blu-ray combo pack is available for preorder at $41. This version includes DVD and digital copies along with all the aforementioned special features.
Additionally, a Lion King 3-Movie Collection is also set for release on April 1, priced at $56 for the DVD edition. However, fans looking to complete their collections might find better value in purchasing the films individually, especially with current discounts on the 4K editions of both the original animated film and the 2019 live-action remake.
