NEW ORLEANS — In a significant development, New Orleans police announced on Monday that no charges will be filed against the cast member who displayed a Palestinian flag reading “GAZA” during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.
The protest banner featured the black stripes associated with both Sudanese and Palestinian flags, along with the word “SUDAN.” The cast member, part of a group of dancers in matching black outfits, prominently held the flag while atop a car that played a central role in the performance. Afterward, the individual ran across the field before being subdued by security personnel.
According to NFL representatives, the individual concealed the flag, and production staff had no knowledge of their intentions. The league also announced that the person has received a lifetime ban from NFL stadiums and events.
Roc Nation, responsible for producing the halftime show, confirmed that the flag display was an unplanned act.
Notably, President Donald Trump was present at the game, though it remains unclear whether he witnessed the protest. Trump’s statements regarding America’s involvement in Gaza have faced significant backlash from the Palestinian community, complicating the ongoing discourse about the region’s future.
