The Sokoto State Police Command has reported the kidnapping of several Muslim worshippers during the early morning (Subhi) prayer at a mosque in the Bushe community, located in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
A police spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that the command is actively coordinating with other security agencies to secure the safe return of all abducted individuals.
According to reports, gunmen invaded the mosque at dawn on Thursday, resulting in the abduction of at least 10 worshippers, including the Imam. Local sources revealed that the attack occurred while community members were engaged in their early morning prayers.
Despite ongoing security efforts in the region, including the deployment of troops from the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division under Operation Fasan Yamma, the community has faced repeated assaults. A local representative in the Sokoto State House of Assembly confirmed the kidnapping incident, acknowledging the efforts of the troops in preventing additional abductions.
The situation highlights ongoing security challenges in the region and underscores the need for enhanced protective measures for local communities.
