São Paulo Dominates Mirassol with 4-1 Victory in Paulistão Showdown
In an impressive display at Morumbi Stadium on Wednesday night, São Paulo triumphed over Mirassol with a commanding 4-1 scoreline during the seventh round of the Paulistão tournament.
The goals for São Paulo were scored by Oscar, Calleri, Enzo Díaz, and André Silva, while Gabriel netted a consolation goal for Mirassol.
Calleri ended a lengthy goal drought that stretched back to September of the previous year, with his last goal occurring during a Libertadores match against Botafogo.
There was initial confusion surrounding the first goal, as it was unclear if Calleri had made contact with the ball during Oscar’s assist. São Paulo initially credited the goal to Calleri before correcting it to Oscar after a review. However, the uncertainty faded quickly as Calleri scored the second goal, finally breaking his dry spell.
Throughout the match, São Paulo maintained control, creating numerous chances from the outset. Although they missed several opportunities, Mirassol managed to equalize before the home team surged ahead again, with the score at one stage standing at 2-1 in favor of São Paulo.
This victory propelled São Paulo to 13 points from six matches, placing them at the top of Group C, while Mirassol remains in second place in Group A with 15 points.
São Paulo is set to return to action on Saturday, March 8, against Red Bull Bragantino in Bragança at 18:30. Meanwhile, Mirassol will host Noroeste on the same day at 16:00.
Key Highlights:
In the ninth minute, Enzo Díaz set up Oscar on the left flank, who cut inside and delivered a close cross. Calleri appeared to close in but did not touch the ball, which ultimately nestled in the net.
Fifteen minutes in, Calleri and Luciano executed a smooth combination, but Muralha expertly intercepted a potential goal from Lucas at the last moment.
An unfortunate error occurred when Sabino lost a tackle, allowing Negueba to cross, setting up Gabriel for the equalizer in the 24th minute.
São Paulo almost took the lead on a close chance from Oscar shortly before the half, but it was Calleri who finally scored again in the 51st minute, capitalizing on a cross from Igor Vinícius.
Mirassol threatened again after the break, but Iury Castilho misfired from close range, handing São Paulo a stroke of luck.
Enzo Díaz extended the lead in the 39th minute with a well-placed shot after receiving a pass from Oscar.
André Silva sealed the victory in stoppage time, scoring after a precise pass from Ferraresi.
