ECNETNews – Indonesia remains the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, with approximately 240.62 million adherents in 2023. This represents 86.7 percent of Indonesia’s total population of 277.53 million. This data is highlighted in a recent report from The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC) titled The Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims 2024.
In the ASEAN region, Indonesia continues to lead as the country with the highest number of Muslims, followed by Malaysia, which has 19.84 million Muslims, constituting 61.3 percent of its population.
Furthermore, a survey conducted by a prominent business magazine ranks Indonesia as the seventh most religious country globally, with a religiosity score of 98.7 percent.
Despite its strong religious identity, Indonesia faces challenges such as looting during disasters. There have been incidents where victims of vehicle accidents did not receive help but instead became targets of theft by opportunistic individuals in the vicinity.
