His Majesty’s Customs has joined forces with the Department of Immigration to launch an advanced online card processing system, transforming border entry protocols in the Virgin Islands.
Commissioner Clinton ‘Greg’ Romney emphasized that this digital shift minimizes unnecessary paperwork by combining previously separate forms. Travellers can now complete a single online form, simplifying administrative processes and speeding up processing times.
This new system, developed with the support of CARICOM IMPACS, allows travellers to submit their entry details up to 72 hours in advance. This proactive approach provides immigration and customs officials with essential information ahead of time, enabling more efficient border control.
“Both agencies are committed to improving processing efficiency at multiple entry points,” Romney stated. The digital system enhances service delivery while reducing operational costs and environmental impact by eliminating paper forms.
While some travellers may initially feel hesitant about this technological shift, the Commissioner believes they will gradually adapt to the online system.
The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance the travel experience while bolstering border security and national safety.
