A tragic incident occurred at the CrossFit Games as competitor Lazar Dukic passed away during a swimming event. Dukic was participating in the event at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, when he submerged and went missing beneath the water.
Emergency services responded to reports around 8 a.m. local time, indicating that a participant was unaccounted for in the water. Following a swift search operation involving a dive team and drones, Dukic’s body was recovered approximately one hour after divers entered the water.
In response to this heartbreaking event, all scheduled activities for the first day of the games were canceled. CrossFit’s CEO expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that organizers were collaborating with authorities for a full investigation.
He added, “We’re doing everything in our power during this tragic time to support the family and our community.” It was also confirmed that safety personnel were present at the swimming event.
The medical examiner’s office has yet to determine the official cause of Dukic’s death. According to his biography on the CrossFit website, he ranked as the third-best CrossFit athlete in Serbia and held the 88th position worldwide. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks involved in high-intensity sports.
