MIAMI, Jan. 16, 2025 — Royal Caribbean is set to elevate the Caribbean art scene with the return of its “Artist Discovery Program.” This initiative invites talented artists from across the Caribbean to contribute their work to the upcoming cruise ship, Star of the Seas, which is set to launch in Port Canaveral, Florida, in August 2025. This program promises to be a vibrant showcase of Caribbean culture, art, and heritage, providing artists an opportunity to connect with vacationers from around the globe.
The Artist Discovery Program was initially introduced on Icon of the Seas and aims to feature emerging local artists in a curated art collection aboard Star of the Seas. This initiative is not only about art; it celebrates the rich tapestry of the Caribbean that makes Royal Caribbean vacations memorable.
“We are thrilled to embark on the next edition of The Artist Discovery Program. The response from artists last year was incredible, with over 140 submissions from 25 Caribbean countries, each telling unique stories,” said a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean. “Our aim is to share the enduring beauty and creativity of the Caribbean, fostering a deeper connection to local culture while guests enjoy their time aboard Star of the Seas.”
Select artists will be commissioned to create large-scale murals in high-traffic areas, including the Royal Promenade and Suite Sundeck Lobby. Each of these artworks is expected to reflect the vibrancy of the Caribbean and enrich the onboard experience.
Participating artists will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000 to support their projects, working closely with Royal Caribbean’s team in Turku, Finland, where Star of the Seas is being constructed.
Interested artists should submit:
- Five samples of original works.
- A brief artist statement outlining their inspiration and artistic vision.
- A copy of their CV or resume.
The selected group will join an inaugural cohort of artists, including notable names who created iconic murals in Icon of the Seas. These artists have already captured the attention of millions visiting the ship, reflecting the essence of their culturally rich locales.
Star of the Seas promises to deliver a unique combination of vacation experiences, blending beach retreats, resort escapes, and theme park adventures across eight distinct neighborhoods. Guests can expect thrilling amenities, including a new supper club experience and the largest water park at sea.
The cruise will operate year-round from Port Canaveral, offering 7-night itineraries to top Caribbean destinations, including Royal Caribbean’s acclaimed private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Stay tuned for future announcements regarding the Artist Discovery Program and its ongoing commitment to celebrating Caribbean artisans.
