A total of 400 graduates from the “Class of 2024” were initiated as members of the Nigeria Institute of Engineers. The commandant, represented by the Provost, Prof. Awwal Kashim, emphasized AFIT’s remarkable growth over the past 40 years, transitioning from a technical institution into a comprehensive university.
AFIT is dedicated to fostering collaborations with various stakeholders, including key engineering organizations in Nigeria. “As you embark on your professional journey, I encourage you to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethics,” he stated.
Currently, AFIT serves as a center for engineering education, research, and innovation, offering 22 programs accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), alongside postgraduate studies and two faculties with programs accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
AFIT is committed to enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of its engineering programs through partnerships and collaborations.
In his address, the President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining quality standards in engineering education nationwide. He highlighted numerous committees established to uphold educational standards, including those focused on university and polytechnic engineering programs.
Abubakar stressed the importance of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which ensures engineering curricula are tailored to produce graduates with the necessary skills and competencies. He reiterated COREN’s dedication to meeting international educational benchmarks, such as the Washington and Sydney Accords.
Additionally, the President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Magret Oguntala, encouraged the graduating class to be exemplary representatives of AFIT, upholding the ethics of their profession in all endeavors.
