ST THOMAS, USVI – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. convened a press conference on Monday to outline significant developments within the Virgin Islands Government, particularly in light of ongoing federal investigations.
During the conference, Governor Bryan announced his request for the resignations of key officials: Virgin Islands Police Commissioner Ray Martinez and Office of Management and Budget Director Jenifer O’Neal. While neither has faced criminal charges, both are involved in federal inquiries.
Governor Bryan emphasized that the integrity of government is paramount, leading him to take this decisive action in response to the federal probe.
On Wednesday, Governor Bryan released a statement addressing federal indictments concerning two former cabinet members and a current official:
“Today, I was informed of federal indictments involving two former members of my cabinet and one current member. While these allegations are serious, it is crucial to allow the legal process to proceed. Every individual deserves due process, which I am committed to uphold.
As Governor, I stand firm on maintaining the highest ethical standards within my administration. These values will guide us as this situation unfolds. My administration will fully cooperate with federal authorities as required.
Furthermore, I want to emphasize that the actions or allegations against specific individuals do not overshadow the dedication of the many public servants who work diligently for the Virgin Islands. My focus remains on serving this community with transparency and integrity.”
“Governor Bryan reiterated his administration’s commitment to ethical governance, stating that these developments will not hinder ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for Virgin Islanders.”
