New York Supreme Court Denies Donald Trump’s Bid to Delay Sentencing in Hush Money Case
ALBANY, N.Y. — New York’s highest court has dismissed Donald Trump’s request to postpone his sentencing in the hush money case, leaving the U.S. Supreme Court as his final avenue for intervention ahead of the scheduled hearing on Friday.
A judge from the New York Court of Appeals issued a brief order rejecting the request from Trump’s legal team for a hearing.
Trump’s attorneys approached the Supreme Court in a last-ditch effort to halt Friday’s sentencing after lower courts denied their request to delay the proceedings. Judge Juan M. Merchan, who oversaw Trump’s trial and subsequent conviction in May on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records, is set to preside over the sentencing. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the matter.
