ChatGPT’s CEO Sam Altman Faces Serious Allegations in Lawsuit Filed by Sister
In a dramatic turn of events, Ann Altman, the sister of Sam Altman, the creator of ChatGPT, has filed a lawsuit accusing him of extensive sexual abuse occurring between 1997 and 2006. The lawsuit was lodged on January 6 in a U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri, claiming the abuse began when she was just three years old and continued into her teenage years.
Sam Altman, who leads OpenAI, the organization behind the cutting-edge AI technology, has strongly denied the allegations. A joint statement issued by him along with his family asserts, “All of these claims are utterly untrue.” They emphasized the challenges of caring for a family member with mental health issues.
In his defense, Altman stated that he provides his sister with monthly financial assistance, covering her bills and rent, and even offered to purchase a house for her. However, he claims that she continues to demand additional support.
The lawsuit contends that Ann Altman endured grooming and manipulation, involving serious allegations of rape, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse, leading to significant physical and emotional injuries. Ms. Altman highlighted the lasting repercussions, including severe emotional distress and a burden of medical bills for treatment related to her claims.
Legal parameters differ between the U.S. and the U.K., as individuals alleging sexual assault in the U.K. are entitled to lifelong anonymity, while such protections do not exist in the U.S.
“This situation causes immense pain to our entire family,” Sam Altman remarked, indicating that efforts had been made to support his sister over the years while trying to avoid enabling any detrimental behaviors.
The lawsuit alleges that the last incident of abuse occurred when Sam Altman was an adult, while Ann was still a minor.
Despite previous claims made by Ann Altman on various platforms, the gravity of these allegations marks a significant chapter in the life of the high-profile tech billionaire. Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, Sam Altman has been a key figure in the AI development landscape. In 2024, he made headlines again when he returned to his position as CEO of OpenAI just days after being ousted by the board in a tumultuous leadership struggle.
