Tragedy struck as a fire at The Ember Hotel, located near Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon District, resulted in three fatalities and injuries to seven others on Sunday night.
According to authorities, the fire erupted around 9:21 PM on the fifth floor of the six-storey hotel.
Witnesses reported seeing flames originating from Room 511. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within approximately one hour.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that around 40 individuals were inside the hotel at the time, with many being evacuated via fire truck ladders from the rooftop.
One foreign woman was discovered deceased in Room 502 on the fifth floor, while two foreign men suffered severe injuries and later died in the hospital. Their identities are still being determined.
The injured include two Thai men, a Japanese man, and foreign nationals from Germany and China.
Governor Chadchart announced that the hotel would be closed for safety inspections following the incident.
Bangkok Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Sayam Boonsom is currently investigating the fire’s cause, emphasizing the urgency of the inquiry.
