On Sunday, a jackup rig partially collapsed off the coast of Trinidad, injuring one worker and leaving another missing.
The incident occurred around 3:00 AM when Rig 110 was actively drilling in the Heritage Offshore East Field. At the time of the collapse, there were 75 personnel onboard. One individual sustained injuries and received immediate medical attention, leading to the evacuation of the rig.
Search operations are ongoing for missing worker Pete Phillip, 45. The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard has deployed multiple assets, including the cutter TTS Port of Spain and eight other support vessels, to assist in the search efforts. Dive operations are currently underway to locate any underwater wreckage.
Heritage Petroleum Company Ltd., the operator of the field, has established an incident command center at its marine base in Point Fortin, staffed with 25 personnel. This team managed the evacuation of the rig and continues to provide drone surveillance and response support following the incident.
Phillip’s wife expressed her deep concern, stating the family is anxiously awaiting his safe return. “The kids are constantly asking for their father. They are wondering whether he can be found. He was supposed to come home Christmas morning,” she said.
Well Services Petroleum Company, which owns Rig 110, has not yet released a public statement concerning the casualty and ongoing search efforts.
