Jakarta – The Secretary-General of the PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyanto, expressed his position following his designation as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on December 26, 2024.
In a video statement, Hasto emphasized that he and his party respect the legal processes in Indonesia. “With my designation as a suspect by KPK, the stance of PDI Perjuangan is to honor KPK’s decision. We are law-abiding citizens, and PDI Perjuangan upholds the rule of law,” Hasto stated in the video.
Despite the serious situation, Hasto displayed determination in facing the case. He remarked that the struggle for democratic ideals often bears significant risks, including the possibility of imprisonment. “As a student of Bung Karno, I adhere to what is written in my book of struggle shared by all PDI Perjuangan cadres,” he expressed.
He continued, “Prison is also a path and a part of the sacrifices we must make for our ideals.” Hasto invoked Bung Karno’s principles, particularly the principle of non-cooperation that guided the founding of the Nationalist Party of Indonesia in the pursuit of independence. He likened the risk of imprisonment he faces to Bung Karno’s struggles during the colonial era.
Case Against Hasto
Hasto Kristiyanto has been marked as a suspect based on two KPK investigation orders issued on December 23, 2024. The first order indicates his alleged involvement in corrupt activities alongside Harun Masiku, involving gifts or promises made to Wahyu Setiawan, a member of the General Election Commission (KPU) 2017–2022, linked to the determination of elected DPR members for the 2019–2024 term.
The second order indicates that Hasto is accused of obstructing an investigation related to the case involving Harun Masiku, who remains a fugitive and has been a wanted person since January 17, 2020.
