ECNETNews has the latest on Netflix’s new release, Carry-On, which is now available for streaming. The film’s cast recently weighed in on whether the action-packed story qualifies as a Christmas movie.
Set in Los Angeles International Airport on Christmas Eve, Carry-On stars Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, and Jason Bateman, drawing comparisons to holiday classics like Die Hard. In an interview, the cast shared their thoughts on the film’s festive classification.
Cast Insights on Carry-On’s Christmas Classification
“I think so,” stated Egerton. “If it makes you feel like it’s Christmas, then it is. Die Hard makes me feel that way. So, by that logic, I think it qualifies as a Christmas film.”
Deadwyler expressed some uncertainty about whether younger viewers even recognize the longstanding debates surrounding Die Hard’s holiday status. However, she emphasized that Carry-On effectively combines elements of both genres.
“Are people even gonna be old enough to engage in that debate? Is it a Christmas movie or an action movie? It encompasses both,” Deadwyler remarked.
Carson supported Deadwyler’s assessment, describing Carry-On as a unique “Chrismaction” film that, like Die Hard, masterfully blends genres.
“Carry-On is, as Danielle said, a ‘Chrismaction’ movie just like Die Hard. It beautifully intertwines elements of Christmas and action,” Carson explained.
In Carry-On, Egerton takes on the role of Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent at the heart of the story. Bateman portrays a mysterious traveler with a hidden agenda involving Kopek. The film’s diverse ensemble cast includes Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Josh Brener, Theo Rossi, Dean Norris, and Sinqua Walls. Additional appearances include Gil Perez-Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson, and Josh Brenner.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for Black Adam, Carry-On features a screenplay by T.J. Fixman and Michael Green. It is produced by Dylan Clark of Dylan Clark Productions, with several executive producers contributing to the project.
Originally announced in 2022, Carry-On is a product of Amblin Entertainment, the production company founded by Steven Spielberg, which entered into a deal with Netflix in 2021 to create multiple films for the platform.
