Dozens Killed in Kazakhstan Plane Crash, Emergency Services Respond
A tragic plane crash in Kazakhstan has resulted in multiple fatalities, with local officials confirming that 67 people were onboard the ill-fated flight. The country’s emergency ministry reports at least 25 survivors from the incident.
The passenger aircraft, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, caught fire as it attempted an emergency landing near Aktau. The flight, identified as J2-8243, was traveling from Baku to Grozny when it was diverted due to foggy conditions.
Eyewitness video footage depicts the plane descending rapidly, with its landing gear deployed. Moments later, a massive fireball erupts as the aircraft appears to crash. The airline confirmed the plane made an emergency landing approximately 3 kilometers from Aktau.
Data indicates the flight took off from Baku at 03:55 GMT and crashed around 06:28. Of the passengers onboard, 62 were civilians and five were crew members, primarily consisting of Azerbaijani nationals, along with several passengers from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Among the 25 survivors, 22 have been hospitalized for treatment.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, battling the fire and rescuing victims from the wreckage. In the wake of this devastating incident, the government has initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash, with Embraer expressing its readiness to cooperate with authorities.
