PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands – The Turks and Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) has announced a significant security breach affecting several segments of its network. In response to the cyber threat, multiple digital applications have been temporarily suspended to minimize risks and prevent further exposure.
Affected ministries and departments are actively implementing their business continuity plans to maintain access to government services for the public. This includes the initiation of manual processes, which may lead to notable disruptions and delays in service delivery.
The cyber incident has particularly impacted TCIG’s revenue collection and payment systems. In light of this situation, the Ministry of Finance has taken decisive actions, including:
- Extending the deadline for the payment of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Tax (HRTT) until December 31, 2024;
- Engaging technical support to facilitate the final payments for the Cost of Living Program and Community Enhanced Projects;
- Mobilizing all available Ministry of Finance personnel to assist the Treasury;
- Exploring various options to ensure timely vendor payments, including the issuance of manual checks;
Additionally, the Ministry of Immigration and Border Force has provided guidance for the public on how to continue accessing essential services, including customs clearance.
TCIG extends its apologies for the inconvenience caused and urges the public to remain patient as the Department of Digitization & E-Government Technology (DETI) works diligently to restore systems securely while enhancing cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents.
