Brighton is actively negotiating with Celtic for a potential transfer of promising midfielder Matt O’Riley, who has also attracted interest from several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea.
This summer has seen O’Riley receive multiple bids, notably from Atalanta, in addition to ongoing inquiries from Premier League and international teams. His impressive performance last season, where he delivered 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 matches, has heightened his market appeal. O’Riley recently contributed to Celtic’s dominant 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock by assisting one of their goals in the Scottish Premiership opener.
The 23-year-old is contracted with Celtic until 2027, and the club previously rejected a £20 million offer from Atletico Madrid in January, establishing a strong stance on his value.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers emphasized that O’Riley will not be sold without a proper valuation. He stated, “The challenge for teams coming to a club like Celtic is they sometimes can place their value on the league and not the player. No player will leave here unless it’s for the right valuation, and at this moment in time, there’s been no offer that has come close to that.”
The summer transfer window is set to close on August 30 at 11 PM UK time for the Premier League and 11:30 PM in Scotland, aligning with several major European leagues to streamline the process.
