PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – In a significant stride in international law enforcement cooperation, a man wanted in New York for serious charges including drug-related murder, attempted robbery, and illegal possession of firearms has been extradited from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States. This operation took place on Sunday, December 22.
The accused, Anthony Regis-Ash, faces potential life imprisonment after being charged in New York in September 2022.
A warrant for his arrest was issued in New York in October 2022, encompassing two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Regis-Ash fled to Trinidad and Tobago in June 2021 before the charges were filed. Following a request for extradition by US law enforcement in July 2024, Trinidad and Tobago officials issued a local arrest warrant, leading to his capture in Cunupia on October 9, 2024.
On December 21, 2024, a removal warrant for Regis-Ash was signed by the Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago, Reginald Armour.
Regis-Ash was escorted back to the United States by U.S. Marshals and Special Agents from a security office, with comprehensive support from Trinidad and Tobago law enforcement agencies, customs divisions, and various U.S. departments, including Customs and Border Protection and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
In a statement, a spokesperson highlighted:
“This extradition underscores the strong partnership between U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago law enforcement. The ongoing collaboration is vital for upholding justice and ensuring safer communities.”
