Garut, ECNETNews – Throughout 2024, Polres Garut in West Java has recorded a notable decrease in criminal cases, handling 937 incidents compared to 1,847 in 2023, with 593 cases resolved.
These cases include aggravated theft, murder, violent theft, and violence against women and children, with a total of 90 reported incidents in the latter category.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Polres Garut, AKP Ari Rinaldo, reported that at least 10 high-profile cases were addressed, encompassing violent theft, murder, vandalism, and crimes against women and children.
“We thank the community for their support, as we’ve successfully managed to reduce the number of crimes and resolve several notable cases,” he stated on December 24, 2024.
Among the significant cases drawing public attention are:
1. In January 2024, police apprehended two suspects involved in a series of supermarket robberies across West Java. The arrests took place in different locations, with two additional suspects still at large.
2. Authorities detained three individuals accused of stealing an Asphalt Mixing Plant machine owned by the Garut Public Works Office on January 24, 2024.
3. Two police officers were implicated in a robbery and abduction case that occurred on February 16, 2024, involving a local resident who was forcibly taken for being suspected of selling illegal drugs.
4. A brutal robbery took place on February 22, 2024, at PT. Andalan Prima Indonesia, where the perpetrators not only made off with a safe containing cash and important documents but also assaulted a security guard before being captured shortly after.
5. After a brief period on the run, police arrested two suspects who brutally murdered a 73-year-old man during a parking dispute on May 5, 2024.
6. On May 9, 2024, in Cikajang, a violent robbery led to the tragic death of a housewife and serious injuries to her daughter, with the assailant being the victim’s own nephew.
7. On June 30, 2024, the discovery of human remains shocked the community in Cibalong-Sancang, raising concerns as both the suspect and victim were believed to be individuals with mental health issues.
8. A 36-year-old elementary school teacher was arrested in July 2024 for alleged sexual abuse of eight students.
9. Three of five suspects involved in a violent robbery at a gas station on October 16, 2024, were apprehended after they threatened security staff with firearms and fled with approximately IDR 200 million in cash.
10. Two suspects linked to a violent mugging were arrested after a shootout with police, during which one of the suspects was killed. The suspects were armed with both firearms and bladed weapons.
Additionally, AKP Ari Rinaldo mentioned several other cases that gained public attention, including a neighborhood extortion case and a controversial incident involving arrests during a wedding ceremony.
