Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Manchester United is facing “maybe one of their lowest moments,” urging all players, including the sidelined Marcus Rashford, to remain “strong in the moment.”
Following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, United now sits in 13th place in the Premier League standings. Amorim’s squad will seek to bounce back during their upcoming Boxing Day fixture against Wolves, having lost three of their last four matches.
Rashford, once a key player for United, has been excluded from the last three matchday squads and recently expressed his desire for a “new challenge” in a shocking interview.
When asked about the potential distraction caused by Rashford’s situation, Amorim responded, “No, I don’t think so. Not for me, not for the other players.” He emphasized that the team remains focused on training and that he is very clear in his expectations. “It’s not a distraction for us; it may be for the media, but it’s not my concern.”
On what he expects from Rashford, Amorim stated, “Like any other player, the best that they can be. If you have big talent, big performance, big responsibility, push forward. Some players have a considerable responsibility because they have been here for a long time. This is perhaps one of the lowest points in our club’s history, and we must confront it and show strength.”
After the defeat to Bournemouth, Amorim’s press conference was humorously interrupted by a leak in the ceiling of the press room. He used this moment to highlight the team’s need for improvement, stating, “It’s a tough moment and it’s on me. Since day one, I am responsible for the team.”
Amorim acknowledged the anxiety felt by fans during the match but praised them for their unwavering support. “What I’m trying to tell the fans is: we understand. I comprehend the frustration and disappointment. We will improve, but it will take time,” he noted.
The manager remains determined to find solutions to the team’s issues, reiterating, “We have to tackle problems step by step. I won’t lose myself in this process, and I know what I’m doing.” With a commitment to rectifying the challenges ahead, Amorim expressed confidence that the team can regain its footing in the league.
