Set to hit select theaters on December 27, 2024, *Bloody Axe Wound* promises a thrilling blend of horror and coming-of-age elements.
ECNETNews: Can you share how you became involved with this intriguing project? What were your initial thoughts upon reading the script for *Bloody Axe Wound*?
Molly Brown: I received the script and was immediately drawn to it. After discussing it with my manager, I found out I would be meeting with the director rather than auditioning traditionally, which was a pleasant surprise.
After meeting with the director, Matt, I realized we shared a lot of common interests. I had watched his previous film and found it really engaging. That connection inspired me to jump at the opportunity to be a part of this project.
Sari Arambulo: My journey to this film was quite unexpected, almost like a twist of fate. One day, I was informed about the lead role and shortly after, I found myself auditioning and then booking the part—all of it happened in a whirlwind!
At that time, I was involved in the writers’ strike, and suddenly, I was prepping for this major role. I was thrilled to dive into a character that offered such depth and complexity.
Brown: Yes, Sari was indeed juggling various commitments while this all happened. It’s fascinating how things unfold sometimes in this industry!
ECNETNews: Sari, your character Abbie navigates typical teenage experiences along with her family’s dark secrets. Was it enjoyable to explore both sides of her personality?
Arambulo: Absolutely! This was unlike any role I’ve tackled before. I loved the challenge of portraying a character living in such a complex world. Abbie’s journey of self-discovery amid her family’s grim legacy was an incredible experience.
ECNETNews: Molly, your character Sam also experiences a duality—grappling with personal grief while maintaining a facade of coolness. How did you approach playing her?
Brown: It was fascinating to portray that balance. Sam provides a grounded perspective on the chaos around her, revealing how the ongoing violence impacts the community. Balancing her camaraderie with Abbie while wrestling with her internal struggles was incredibly rewarding.
ECNETNews: The chemistry between your characters is palpable, especially during pivotal moments such as their first kiss. How did you cultivate that connection while filming?
Arambulo: I quickly bonded with Molly; our friendship seemed instant. We spent time together before shooting, which helped us develop a natural rapport.
Brown: Indeed! We had casual meals and table readings together, which laid a solid foundation for our characters’ relationship in the film. It’s essential to have that connection, especially when portraying a love story in such a unique setting.
