Sonic, the innovative GameFi network built on Solana, is set to airdrop free SONIC tokens to TikTok users who participate in its newly launched crypto game.
The Sonic network, leveraging the Solana Virtual Machine protocol, has designed SonicX, a unique game integrated directly within the TikTok platform, similar to mini-games developed on other messaging services.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional web2 audiences and emerging web3 projects, effectively targeting the vast number of users engaging on popular social media platforms like TikTok.
With more than 1 billion active monthly users on TikTok, projections indicate this number could exceed 2 billion by 2029.
SonicX, recognized as the first TikTok App Layer by Sonic SVM, will distribute SONIC tokens to all eligible TikTok users. The platform has already attracted over 2 million users, who can onboard seamlessly without the need for external wallet setups or gas fees.
Games that thrive on social media have gained significant traction on platforms like Telegram, with projects such as Notcoin (NOT) and Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) rapidly amassing large user bases within months.
Nonetheless, the longevity of this trend remains uncertain. Previous projects have shown a considerable decline in user engagement following their initial token airdrops, with some, like Hamster Kombat, experiencing an over 80% drop in users after their token distribution. Major exchanges have reported similar decreases in activity within crypto mini-apps on social platforms.
