Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus has emerged as a symbol of the profound struggles faced by the Syrian population throughout the ongoing civil war that ignited in 2011. Once home to approximately 150,000 residents, it stood as the unofficial hub for the Palestinian refugee community in the Middle East. Tragically, the camp was devastated by conflict, subjected to a relentless siege, fierce battles between rebels and government forces, and ultimately fell under the control of the Islamic State group.
In the wake of the Assad regime’s decline, many former residents are now taking steps to return, rekindling hopes for a new beginning. Among them is a notable individual who spent his childhood in Yarmouk before fleeing with his family in 2013.
