NEW YORK — NEW YORK — Jay-Z’s legal team has filed a motion requesting the swift removal of the rapper from a lawsuit in which a woman alleges she was sexually assaulted by him and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs when she was just 13 years old.
The unnamed plaintiff recently included Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, in her lawsuit against Combs in federal court in Manhattan. She claims she was assaulted by both rappers in 2000 after being offered a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party by Combs’ limo driver.
In the court documents submitted on Wednesday, Jay-Z’s attorneys referenced a recent television interview wherein the woman acknowledged discrepancies in her account.
This motion was filed shortly before Combs attended a pretrial hearing concerning his ongoing criminal case. During discussions on evidentiary deadlines, prosecutors informed the judge that any new charges against Combs prior to a May trial would necessitate minimal new evidence being disclosed to the defense.
In his criminal case, Combs has pleaded not guilty to allegations of coercing and abusing women for years with assistance from various associates and employees. Currently detained without bail for three months, Combs embraced his legal team and acknowledged his children present in the courtroom.
In the civil suit—the latest among several filed against Combs—the accuser previously stated that she was raped by him during the after-party, without initially implicating Jay-Z.
In a recent interview, the woman claimed to have conversed with musicians at the after-party and stated her father picked her up following the alleged incident. Reports indicate her father does not recall such a lengthy drive home following the event.
Jay-Z has alleged that these claims demonstrate a false complaint filed against him for financial gain. The legal representative for Combs has characterized the television interview as a part of an ongoing “shameful money grab.”
In their recent court filings, Jay-Z’s counsel asserted that the allegations “have caused incalculable harm to Mr. Carter, his family, his businesses, his employees, and his legacy.”
The plaintiffs’ lawyers are expected to respond in court to the latest developments.
The attorney representing the accuser described the motions filed by the defense as meritless and contrary to legal rules.
Recently, it was disclosed that the attorney represents over 120 individuals alleging sexual misconduct against Combs.
Jay-Z and Combs rose to fame in the 2000s, establishing themselves as influential entrepreneurs and some of the wealthiest figures in hip-hop, with estimates placing Jay-Z’s current net worth at $2.5 billion.
The two artists have collaborated on several projects, including appearances on each other’s albums.
